B1E4 Caer Dineval Basement Dwellers
The peg-leg female soothsayer dwarf Hethyl died in our presence, with her tarot cards laid out before her. A black obsidian crystal hung on her necklace. Not obsidian but rather chardalyn: warmth. Signet to the cults' Levistus demon worship.
Thokk took her necklace to then pretend he was considering
joining their cult. Which gave us some leeway exploring the castle. Learned
other cultists joined for warmth and comfort of the castle versus cold and
drudgery of the outside world.
Knott changed into a rat to explore the 2nd floor to search
for speaker Crannoc Siever.
Found, with a cultist in his room: him more prison guard than bodyguard.
We explored the castle ramparts and its connected corner
towers where we found a hidden trapdoor. Below, we found the cold storage and floating
corpses of some of the original castle staff. Also found a statue dedicated to Levistus with
brown mold behind it.
In another room, we found an albino Tiefling (Averous)
doing research. She knows Vellynne
Harpell (the
scholarly wizard who stayed in Bryn Sanders for her own research).
Averous and Vellynne are of
the same organization trying to find the lost flying city that crashed eons
ago. She knows Vellynne as
a necromancer, "Does she still have her kobold minions?"
Still another room with lever that raised wall barrier that
trapped 5 more original staff barely alive. They explained how Kadroth and the
peg-legged dwarf overtook the castle and have the speaker sequestered for his
own good.
Raising the barrier alerted the cultists who attacked when we
returned thru the trapdoor. A fight to the finish against spellcasters with
touch spells. Kadroth the last to fall, slain by Draggo.
During the night, Averous left out the front gate
accompanied by her gargoyles.
Caer Konig:
With the speaker freed and town militia called forth, we
continued on to Caer Konig, with its own problems: beset with vandals and
thieves. Nothing of real value (an inn’s lantern, goats, sack of gems).
Knott thinking about tricksters such as leprechauns. Learns
about the local lore of 6" tall Chwinga. But reports of dwarf size
footprints has the group thinking more of the Duergar as implied here in Caer
Konig by the campaign map.
Highlights:
- The Tiefling wizard Kadroth and scholar dwarf Hethyl were nothing more than cultist worshipers of Levistus.
- The albino Tiefling (Averous) knows Vellynne. It sounds like both are necromancers.
- As the Duergar campaign map implied, it looks like the evil dwarfs also infest Caer Konig.
