Jarl (human Wizard, Bill), Mareshi (human Cleric, Tony), Draggo (Dragonborn Barbarian, Brian), Thokk (half-Orc Warlock, Duane), Knott (Firbolg Druid, Matt), Fabian (1/2 elf Bard, Goeff) Spire of Iriolarthas : Obviously the weather control devise was damaged as bolts of electricity or bolts of lightning or solar flares shot out in random directions. And yet the Tomb-Tapper with its gapping maw stood defiant. We’d come to destroy it and hopefully the demilich’s phylactery that it represented. Little did we realize the demilich Iriolarthas was also present as he screamed an unholy Howl that buckled our sanity and fortitude (10d10 damage). Jarl cast Haste on Draggo (our greatest warrior) as the others cast spells or mocking words at the threats. Mareshi was kept busy healing others while Knott summoned a giant ant to occupy the Tomb-Tapper. Decision ? Kill the construct first and ignore the more powerful and threatening demilich?! T...

Jarl (human Wizard, Bill), Mareshi (human Cleric, Tony), Draggo (Dragonborn Barbarian, Brian), Thokk (half-Orc Warlock, Duane), Knott (Firbolg Druid, Matt), Fabian (1/2 elf Bard, Goeff) Y7- Tower of Conjuration : We visited this place once but failed to learn its inscription. Time to head back to the tower and its giant hands that glided in a circle around a diorama of the tower itself. Attempts to approach were blocked. Mareshi cast Detect Magic which exposed a glowing door (portal to a demiplane) at the back of the room.  Inside: 3 old ugly hags that cackled with delight at relishing the dreams of pain within the city. Thokk and Draggo shared secrets (Thokk killed his father, while Draggo offered up the name of his dead son) to get them to reveal the clue of this tower: ·          Second, summon a flame in the palm of your hand . Y20- Tower of Evocation : a red light shone from a high window of this tower. We entered an octagon...

B1E22- Tracking the Towers

Jarl (human Wizard, Bill), Mareshi (human Cleric, Tony), Draggo (Dragonborn Barbarian, Brian), Thokk (half-Orc Warlock, Duane), Knott (Firbolg Druid, Matt), Fabian (1/2 elf Bard, Goeff) Y10- Forest : the arboretum at last, with its canopy of gold leaves in contrast to the icy bleak surroundings. No wind yet the leaves sway. Thinking any wood will do per the task of getting a wand of nether-oak, Knott breaks a branch. Four threatening Needle-Blight confront the druid who explains in their tongue, “I’ll bring it back.” Learning the tree speaks common, Knott apologizes for his act, but the tree explains wizards have been taking his branches for eons. How their lust for power led to their transformation to nothics. Y11- Divination Tower (Hands/Eyes) : After a long rest, we trek to the closest tower whose roof is missing- its spire broken off. When Thokk questions what happened to it, floating eyeballs answer, “Ask and we shall find. It broke off and landed in the observatory (Y15...

B1E21- Ythryn at Last

Jarl (human Wizard, Bill), Mareshi (human Cleric, Tony), Draggo (Dragonborn Barbarian, Brian), Thokk (half-Orc Warlock, Duane), Knott (Firbolg Druid, Matt), Fabian (1/2 elf Bard, Goeff) Room with purple pear trees : Initially suspicious of the unnatural fruit, each of us ate one and gained knowledge of different spells. Fabian spoke elvish with the Dryad forest keeper ( Hathowyn ), learning that 3 Drow from the Underdark recently passed thru here from the 5 th passage to the 3 rd , carrying crossbows. We were only the second living thing she’d seen pass her way. While we saw movement just inside the 4 th passage (Hathowyn described them as Nothics), we entered the 3 rd in pursuit of the Drow. Thokk’s light spell revealed the 3 Drow floating 30ft in the air (out of melee range). Thus, spells and ranged weapons prevailed, to include their casting of Black Tentacles to hinder our movement. But we prevailed and sorted thru their possessions: a spell associated with the demon...

B1E20- Ice Dungeon Crawl

Image
Jarl (human Wizard, Bill), Mareshi (human Cleric, Tony), Draggo (Dragonborn Barbarian, Brian), Thokk (half-Orc Warlock, Duane) , Knott (Firbolg Druid, Matt), Fabian (1/2 elf Bard, Goeff) Onward to Reghed Glacier : several days journey till we came to an ice wall (frozen waterfall). A puzzled human wizard ( Jarl ) stood before the wall, “ Oh good, someone else to help solve the entry problem. I’m from the Arcane Brotherhood and had the premonition you would show .” The wall kept refreezing with every weapon-strike and cast spell. But once someone recited the Rime of the Frost Maiden : the wall melted, revealing caverns. And from somewhere inside, we heard the repeating sound of "Tekeli-li". We entered the frozen cavern maze of mostly stone construction with 20-30ft ceilings. The first room included a ship hull encased in ice. A frozen iron safe (with a combo lock) blocked the way. Mareshi accidently knocked something over: the sound echoed throughout the cavern syste...

B1E19- Between a Roc and a Hard Place

Donobis (Tiefling paladin, Bill), Mareshi (human Cleric, Tony), Draggo (Dragonborn Barbarian, Brian), Thokk (half-Orc Warlock, Duane), Knott (Firbolg Druid, Matt), Fabian (1/2 elf Bard, Goeff) Cruelty : We conquered the other tests (Endurance, Isolation, and Preservation) and now faced Cruelty. The snow and ice cleared to reveal the clan of the Cave-Bears, where most laid around with distended stomachs from starvation. A gladiator named Silval greeted us, “Auriel’s emissaries! The chief wants to see you.” They were 17 days into a raging blizzard with no end in sight. Faced with cannibalism as their last resort, Chief Grunwald was deciding which of the 50 tribe-members to sacrifice to feed the remaining. A mighty warrior who was the fattest and thus most meat? An elder who had already experienced life? One of the 20 children? Our offer of our own rations would only fend off 2 days. Knott’s offer of Goodberries wouldn’t last long, nor Mareshi’s ability to create food sustain m...
